As more and more parents turn to websites and the internet to locate and learn about your school and its programs, having a great website for your childcare or leaning program is an absolute prerequisite to increasing enrollment. If you don’t have a SEO optimized childcare or educational website, people will not be able to find your business when searching on Google and Yahoo.

If you are planning to set up a new website or redesign your existing site, but don’t have enough money to spend on designer fees, consider using a professionally designed WordPress theme. Most people are able to modify the theme by themselves, or you can have a designer modify it for you for a much lower fee – and still save a lot of money.

One great example is this OnTheGo Theme from Elegant themes that I just modified for the “Studio Usmiech” Polish Language and Culture Learning Center located in Rutherford, New Jersey.

WordPress based websites are simple to operate and the owners can update it yourself anytime – without having to ask me or another designer for help.

Why use WordPress for your business website?

–WordPress is Affordable – Compared to the cost of typical website design, and a WordPress site with custom theme and plug-ins is extremely affordable. WordPress itself is FREE and is being constantly developed and improved. There are hundreds of free themes and plugins that extend its functionality available for download from the WordPress.org site (do not confuse it with WordPress.com, which is a hosting site for WordPress blogs).

–WordPress is extremely easy to use and update, so you can be in complete control of your content.

–Wordpress blogs easily integrate with all of your social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr photostream, (see the photostream of Studio Usmiech here, to learn how to set up a custom URL for your Flickr.com photostream, click here) etc.

–Wordpress is search engine friendly right out-of-the-box! – so your customers can easily find you. If you couple WordPress with proper SEO, your customers will have no difficulty with finding your website. Important tip for all local-based businesses is to include geographical location in your Title tags, and meta description of your page. Make sure the address appears in at least a few places on the site, as crawlable text (as opposed to making it graphic based or in Flash)! Also make sure the city name shows up in key places like title tags and headings here and there, and that you’ve got a good, crawlable contact us page with all your information on it. 3 Easy Steps to Setting Up a Website For Your Daycare Center

1. Register a domain name (you can register a domain with Godaddy, one of the biggest registrars out there).

2. Choose and pay for hosting. You can find many affordable and reliable hosting companies online. One company that I recommend is Hostgator. It provides unlimited hosting and easy, one-click WordPress installation, so your website will be ready in no time!

3. Choose a theme and upload it to your hosting location. You may choose one of the Elegant themes, such as OnTheGo Theme. Read about other great premium WordPress themes.

And that’s it! You are ready to create content and start telling people about your business.

What If You Already Have a Website?

If you already have a website that you don’t want to change, but you find it difficult to update, you may just add a blog to your site. That’s what happened in the case of Goldilocks Learning Center, a daycare and pre-school center in Rutherford, NJ.

The owner did not want to redesign the old site, so we just added a blog to the site in a subdirectory http://goldilockslc.com/blog/, where it will be easy to publish new information – with news about summer camps in Rutherford, NJ, and other. It may not be an ideal solution, but it works for the time being.
